Introduction of SATHI Live

Since the evolution of Indian social system, volunteerism has been an important & integral part of our thought process, guiding and nurturing different types of political set up. This process became recognized and institutionalized in post - independent era. The Indian democratic set up tried to bring voluntary sector in "nation-building" process.

Though four pillars (Executive, Legislative, Judiciary & Press) have made significant contribution in the evolution of our democracy, but somehow in course of time they became competitor to each other (encroaching each other's domain) rather than complementing each other - the role envisioned by the fathers of our constitution.

In the last 50 years though voluntary sector has stamped its authority on our entire social and political spectrum, nevertheless 'soul & spirit' of volunteerism got diluted and gradually lost its position of pre-eminence.

SATHI will work to 'streamline' the working nature of voluntary sector so that it can become "pivot of change", leading and guiding other democratic institutions in social-reconstruction, enriching democracy, commanding due respect from entire society and in the process, becoming the "middle pillar" of democracy. SATHI hopes to provide a "platform" to different voluntary organisations working for the upliftment of general masses, to come forward and share their experiences, problems, achievements with other like-minded organisations. Its role is more of a "facilitator", creating conducive atmosphere for other voluntary organisations engaged in "Community-Building" so that the vision of the empowerment of the whole society could be realized in letter & spirit. For this it has divided its aims and objectives in two parts.
